Chat GPT?

Many people are using ChatGPT these days and it can be extremely useful for some things.

It has become a popular tool for travellers to design for them a full travel itinerary. While it can look very impressive, I would be very cautious about fully trusting it. By all means use some of the suggestions, but double check them with a reputable travel agent, or friend/family recommendations.

A good example I heard recently of someone that relied on Chat GPT for an itinerary, was a couple in their 50's that asked it if it was a good idea to go to Ios Greece mid Summer (they like relaxation - not partying). Chat GPT told them it was a great island to visit and suggested where to stay on the island.

Upon arriving (in peak Summer period) they realised they were surrounded by 18-21 year olds. They checked in to their recommended accommodation and were initially impressed, but not long after were inundated with the nearby thumping club/beach bar music which went well into all hours of the morning.

A travel expert (like me who specialises in Greece) would have known not to recommend a 'party island' like Ios in the peak of Summer, there are so many other quieter islands to enjoy at that time of year. Ios is certainly a beautiful island, but the Spring/Autumn seasons would be a far better choice for a couple in their 50's to visit. And if they still insisted on visiting Ios in peak Summer, I would have placed them in a quieter part of the island, far away from the party scene.....

So next time you're thinking of using Chat GPT to design your itinerary, do your own research diligently, or better yet let a professional like myself, do it for you. Happy Travels! 😊
